Updated guideline gives new recommendations on thyroid dysfunction in pregnancy
KEY POINT
Pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism should be treated with levothyroxine, according to an updated guideline from the Endocrine Society. Additional evidence-based recommendations on diagnosing and treating thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy and in the postpartum interval, including new guidance on avoiding maternal hepatic toxicity with propylthiouracil, are provided.
