New use of systemic glucocorticoids linked to three-fold increase in VTE risk

KEY POINT

The risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) was increased in individuals newly or recently starting or currently taking systemic glucocorticoids, according to a recent study. New use of inhaled or intestinal-acting glucocorticoids was also linked to increased VTE risk.
