GERD, constipation: Which OTCs do physicians recommend?

Approximately one-half of U.S. gastroenterologists recommend OTC proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and almost all recommend OTC products for the initial treatment of chronic constipation. However, many physicians continue to recommend brand-name products over store brands, with limited knowledge of the price differential between these products.
