Combination antidepressants as initial therapy for MDD

KEY POINT

Use of mirtazapine in combination with fluoxetine, venlafaxine, or bupropion for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) resulted in higher remission rates (46% to 58%) compared with fluoxetine monotherapy (25%); however, weight gain and somnolence were more common with combination therapy.
