Bronchodilators associated with arrhythmia risks in COPD

KEY POINT

New use of inhaled ipratropium and long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs) were associated with increased arrhythmia risk in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a recent retrospective study. Published simultaneously, a similar study with a larger patient group revealed increased arrhythmia risk with long-acting and short-acting beta-agonists, but did not confirm an increased risk with ipratropium.
