Zinc: A cure for the common cold?

KEY POINT

According to a recent synopsis in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), oral zinc is associated with a reduced duration of common cold symptoms but not with decreased symptom severity. Researchers also found that the prophylactic use of oral zinc in children can reduce the incidence of common cold.
